Taking elegant ultraslow flights with the
Micro Owl
is truly a peaceful experience. Studying Barn Owls for many years and their graceful slow flying characteristics has lead my passion and love of owls into designing the Micro Owl.
The
wing geometry of
owls
in particular is characterized by complex variation in parameters such as camber, twist, sweep and dihedral. With massive under camber and wing area, the
owl like airfoil
has high lift performance with a nonlinear lift increase due to the presence of a separation bubble on the suction side.
Experience ultraslow and graceful flying with the

. Design mimicking the great barn owl, with massive wing area and under chamber along the wings airfoil, granting super slow flying characteristics with amazing lift using minimal throttle input.
It is a difficult task to mimic flying style of our feathered friends when designing RC airplanes, as barn owls and other birds of prey use wing articulation to achieve desired angle of attack and dynamic flying and gliding. The owls airfoil has been studied at Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Kyushu University in Fukuoka Japan with amazing results. Studying these results, we were able to design the Micro Owl based on these findings.
With such amazing lift, the
Owl
is able to fly over 10 minutes on a single 1s 150mAh battery charge using only 1/4th throttle. The Owl can also be flown without a motor slope soaring on the gentlest ridge lift, at the beach, on the mountain tops or any ridge with smooth wind flow.
Flying weight of only 25 grams, the Owl is perfect for your backyard designed to fly at close proximity. The kit comes with laser cut contest grade balsa fuselage, tail feathers, laser cut ribs, birch support ribs and everything else needed to complete your own
Micro Owl
. Choose to cover your wings with tissue or if you live in a humid environment its best to cover wings with lamination which is also included in the kit. Ultralight weight 5 inch propeller is included with your kit along with a 2 gram geared motor.
Your Micro Owls
ultralight signature weight and carbon fiber reinforcements allows for even the hardest crash landings without a single scratch or dent. Parts. Replacement Parts such as motors, motor gears, motor shaft will be available if needed.

providing simple and easy way to learn and follow directions building your owl from start to finish. My RC kits are designed with simplicity in mind, nothing too difficult or confusing, anyone can follow and build.
Covering the wings of your Micro Owl
To cover the balsa ribbed wings on the
Micro Owl
, light weight colored
t
issue paper
is used. Included in the kit you will find 4 white pieces to cover both wing panels and random trim colors for counter balance and esthetics.
Optional wing covering method
If you live in a humid environment or simply want stronger structural wings,  alternative and recommended method to cover your owls  wings can be used with light weight lamination
.
Standard PET transparent laminating film can also be used which comes with your Kit. If you want different color film, please email me.
To cover the wings of your owl with lamination film, a heat iron is used. Mini heat irons work best with variable heat adjustment. Few brand names to choose from that may be purchased from ebay or amazon are:

Ming Yang sealing tool
Large heat iron/sealing iron will work as well, make sure to use low heat. Both irons must have cloth sock on head to prevent iron from sticking to lamination film. Regular cotton sock can be wrapped around head of iron with thread.
